I'd suggest more tamer options like Ancient's Pledge, Insight (for his Merc), Rhyme (which can be put in certain Preserved Heads) or maybe even a Smoke if he gets further into Nightmare.įor a Summoner I would highly suggest taking Might over Defiance for your Merc aura once you get to Nightmare, as usually lack of defense is not what is killing them, and the damage boost is important (and stacks with Conc, Fana, etc) The OP mentioned he was new to D2 and new to the character, so while telling him about end-game gear is perhaps interesting it might not be pertinent to his situation, I doubt he'll be making Beasts, Prides, Enigmas, Infinities or Ethereal Uniques and Runewords any time soon. Usually the idea is to use Amplify on regular mobs (to maximize Skeleton damage and half of Corpse Explosion) then use Decrepify for its debuff qualities on Act Bosses or other tricky uniques. There's really no reason to use Weaken as far as I'm aware once Decrepify is available. To the best of my knowledge, weaken only reduces damage by 33%, while Decrepify reduces damage by 50%, speed by 50% and increases physical damage taken by 50%. I rarely see a need for Bone Armor, since usually the type of things that are hitting you as a Necromancer with summons are not physical, but it's just a one point investment I suppose. If you really want more Summons you can go more than the one point wonder in Revive and just revive more ranged mobs. Unless you're building explicitly for it, I would say Skeleton Mages are generally not worth the investment. The aura will reduce ennemies all res and boost the dmg of your mages. That should cover it, pm me if you have any question.Įdit: you can also replace the pride on the merc by a infinity. When fighting bosses, you wanna use weaken instead of amp damage. Usually 1-2 shot any monster with amp damage on.

it explodes for about all the screen and does a shit ton of dmg. You will realise that with your +allskills, corpse explosion is very very very OP. Spam amp damage on ennemies and spam corpse explosion. Gameplay: kill monsters until you have all of your army summoned. If you can afford it, give him a ethfortitude and eth andyvisage. Think as your merc as your "best summon" he is the one that will help you kill your first minions to spawn your army. Concentration aura + defiance aura is gonna boost your army. Get a defensive act 2 merc and give him pride runeword. The aura from beast is gonna boost your army. Get the usual shako with enigma, sojs, arach, etc.įor the weapon you wanna get a beast runeword on a low str/dex req weapon. Put one point in amp damage and weaken curse.ĭump extra skills in either your golem or your summon resist.įor gear you want as much +skill as you can. Put one point in corpse explosion, bone armor. Put one point in the golem of your choice, one point in revive and one point in summon resist. Max your Skeleton army, skeleton mage and skeleton mastery skills. I would echo the sentiment that generally Mages are not very strong, and I rarely see a need for Bone Armor. That build can get you well into Nightmare/Hell before you need to look at expanding outwards. Act 2 Offensive Merc in Nightmare is your best friend. Besides that, do the usual of putting together gear that gives Resistances and Life and you should be all set.Īct 2 Mercenaries are your buddies, as their auras help your whole team. Try to find a preserved head with relevant +Skills as well. You can waypoint back and forth in Act one to visit/reset Akara until you find a Wand of +3 Raise Skeleton or +Raise Skeleton + Raise Mastery, etc. Get one point in Amplify Damage, and get Decrepify by 24 for bosses.įor stats, you probably won't have a reliably strong shield, so I'd avoid putting points into Dex, get Strength to about 60-80, put the rest into Vitality and don't touch Energy. Get a point in Clay Golem, Golem Mastery and Summon Resist as they appear. As far as simple but effective builds, I'd follow the Fishymancer that doctorsacred mentioned.Įssentially, max these in order: Raise Skeleton, Skeletal Mastery, Corpse Explosion.
